General Information
Candidates for admission should demonstrate reasonable progress toward graduation in an accredited secondary school, have graduated from a secondary school, or offer evidence of an equivalent secondary education.
Each candidate should show satisfactory academic preparation in 16 units of subject matter:
4 units of English
3 units of social studies
2 units of mathematics
1 unit of science with laboratory
6 additional units
Either SAT or ACT scores are required for those who wish to enter as freshmen.
In addition to fulfilling general admission requirements, candidates for admission to a degree program in art, education, music, nursing, and pre–physician assistant studies must meet special standards established by the department.
Prior to enrollment, music, theater, and art candidates are required to audition or to present an art portfolio.
For certain programs, candidates without the recommended distribution of units may be eligible for admission if their course work as a whole and the results of their tests offer evidence of a strong foundation for college work. Candidates who are deficient in required course work may complete the appropriate work during the summer or the first year in college.
Candidates who do not meet all admission requirements may be offered admission provided they initially enroll in a limited number of academic courses. The Committee on Admissions may recommend a program that encourages the student to concentrate on the enrichment of academic skills and study habits. Special academic advisors are assigned to assist these persons. Persons in this group enroll for no more than twelve credits during their first semester.
Candidates for admission who are residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and who qualify by virtue of their academic background and the level of their family's financial resources may be offered the opportunity to enroll in Marywood through the Act 101 Program. Students are chosen for admission on the basis of their personal potential, motivation and academic goals, and are offered, at the time of enrollment, special academic support services. The program is supported by a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
International candidates are required to meet the academic standards for admission, demonstrate proficiency in the use of the English language, and submit documentation of having sufficient funds to cover educational and living expenses for the duration of study.
To certify proficiency in the use of English, international applicants whose primary language is not English must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Application Checklist
Applications for admission are considered on a rolling basis; however, candidates are encouraged to submit applications by March 1. Applications received after March 1 are considered on the basis of available space in particular programs.
Applicants must submit to the Office of Admissions:
- A completed application. Students can apply online at http://mymarywood.com/apply_now.asp
- Nonrefundable $30 application fee
- Official high school transcript with an indication of class rank
- Official report of scores from the SAT or ACT
- At least one letter of recommendation.
All submitted credentials become the property of Marywood and are not returnable to the applicant. Admission standards and policies are free of discrimination on grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
